Heifer International

Obeying God's call to "let justice roll down like waters" (Amos 5:24), since 1944, Heifer International has helped millions of struggling families become more self-reliant by providing food-producing and income producing animals and training in their care. Rooted in Christian tradition, Heifer joins with people of faith everywhere to work for the dignity as well-being of all people where ever they live. Through the faithful support of churches and individuals, Heifer ministers to families in several ways: Helping Children; Enabling Women & Families; Caring for the Environment; Developing Community; and Passing on the Gift.

Barts Centenary has taken on the task of providing an Ark. An Ark is many different animals provided for a community. To Provide an Ark we need to raise $5000. In a sprite of love and challenge, an enormous member has issued a challenge.

Our continuing event is the collection for an Ark for the Heifer International. Many of you have been giving to it on a regular basis. Quite a bit has been donated (over $3,000 to date), but we still need more to make the $5,000 cost for an Ark. So let's continue with these offerings. There are many different animals that can be included in the ark. Two flocks of chicks may be sent in the Ark. Many families around the world want Heifer Project chicks because they give protein-rich eggs or meat to eat or sell. They don't take a lot of space and adapt well to different climates. Chickens aren't expensive to feed either. They round out their diet by pecking at bugs, weeds and seeds, and they improve the ground by scratching up the soil with their sharp beaks and claws and fertilizing it with their droppings. Newly hatched chicks are good travelers because they can go for 72 hours without food or water. In six months, the young hens are ready to lay eggs themselves. You are encouraged to continue giving for the Ark.
